One of my favorite techniques to use is the Three Needle Bind Off. I often pair this bind off method with the provisional cast on mainly because I like to avoid sewing seams but they also give a really neat looking join as well. They are definitely worth learning and keeping in your reservoir of knitting knowledge. Whenever you see a pattern call for the Three Needle Bind Off you are really just seaming two ends of your project together as you bind off. It may be awkward at first but I prefer it over the alternative which is binding off and then having to hand sew the seam.
