Ava Cowl // Crochet Pattern

Updated: Apr 21, 2020

The Ava cowl is a simple piece that works up very quickly and doesn't require a lot of time or material. This makes it a fantastic choice for a last minute gift or to add that finishing touch to a great outfit. I designed it to use exactly one ball of Lion Brand Thick & Quick but you can use any super bulky yarn.

Materials:

Hook - 10mm N/P

Yarn - 106 yds of Category 6 Super Bulky or (1 ball) Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick & Quick

Scissors

Gauge: 4” = 7 sts x 4.5 rounds in DC

Abbreviations:

CH: chain

BB: back bump

DC: double crochet

ST(S): stitch(es)

PM: place marker

SL ST: slip stitch

FO: fasten off

Notes:

CH 2 does not count as a ST, do not SL ST to top of CH 2 but always into 1st DC {this will hide your seam}

The first round will be worked entirely into the BB (back bump) of each CH {this will give you a neat edge}

There are no increases or decreases so you should always have the same number of STS

Pattern:

CH 45

Round 1: SL ST to BB of 1st CH, DC in first CH (the one you SL ST into) PM and DC around, SL ST to 1st DC

Round 2: CH 2, DC in same st and each around SL ST to 1st DC

Round 3-10: repeat round 2 until you have 10 rounds total

SL ST into first ST and then work invisible FO and weave in all ends.

Invisible FO: remove hook, put hook through next st from inside to outside, place the loop back around your hook and pull it to the inside of your work, cut your working yarn and pull it through loop to FO. For more on this FO click here.
